She has been keeping us smiling, tired, and a-new-kind-of busy for the last two months, after her much-anticipated 41-week arrival.
For her first Halloween, I made her a cozy little lamb hat from the Purl Bee tutorial.
My kids have big heads, so I actually first made her the size 6-12 months, thinking she would have room to wear it this winter. Alas, it was way too big:
She didn't love it.
It was a simple project so I made another in the 0-3 month size.
The main fabric is Michael Miller organic sherpa and the lining is Robert Kauffman flannel in light pink. I was able to spend my Purl Soho gift certificate that had been burning a hole in my pocket since my birthday! They also sell a kit to make two hats.
Unfortunately, the sherpa isn't easy to sew, even with my walking foot as instructed. Also, the pattern includes only a quarter-inch seam allowance which is tough to manage with all that bulk around the ears. The front stretched a bit so it puckers around her face and isn't snug. I should have adjusted the seam allowance towards the front to accommodate the stretch and to try to keep the center panel square. Oh well.
She was a little happier to wear the smaller size to head out trick-or-treating with the big kids.
It was a chilly evening so the hat was perfect.
Also—you guessed it—everyone thought she was a bunny. She can totally rock the bigger one at Easter in the spring. :)
Update: I made another one, 0-3 months size again, and this time put lightweight fusible interfacing on the rectangular piece of the sherpa and that solved my problem of the corners stretching out and making the hat pucker around Lottie's face. This one stayed nice and round (and its ears are particularly perky). It is going to my friend in Boston for her little one on-the-way.
