Father and Son Ties

Matchy matchy for Father's Day!

For three years the Crozet Gazette has been lucky enough to be a sponsor of Pink Ribbon Polo, a really fun local event at King Family Vineyards, which is a fundraiser for the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation. It is traditionally held on Father's Day.

This year, I had a lot of fun making some special (pink) accessories for the match, to celebrate the amazing man who is known as Daddy in our house.

The fabric is "Dogwood Floral" linen blend by April Johnston (Project Runway) for Jo-ann.

For AJ's tie, I used the power tie pattern from Sew Everything Workshop by Diana Rupp. I have used the pattern three or four times before for him. It is an good shape and a pretty easy pattern. You only use facing pieces for the two ends, not a full lining—which saves fabric, but interfacing is key. Otherwise the tie is almost always too lightweight, and also, you can see the center seam through the front.

For Leo's little bow tie, I roughly followed these instructions from Prudent Baby. I didn't find the clasp she used at my local Jo-ann, so I just machine-sewed on some velcro for the neck band closure.

There's a sneak peak of Louisa's matching dress, which I will post about as soon as I can.

Run and stomp those divots, Leo!
