Holiday Sunki Dress

For Louisa's Christmas dress, I made my first (finally!) Figgy's Pattern... a Sunki dress. I managed to finish it in time for her last day of school before winter break, which is also the day of her school's annual performance of St. George and the Dragon, which celebrates the winter solstice and the holiday season.

I made size 4/5 with Let it Snow in Eggnog Green from the Dear Mr Claus collection designed by Cosmo Cricket for Moda Fabric, which I got from Sew Mama Sew. The green side panels are Kona Cotton in Holly.

The pattern is probably not for beginners because the pocket/side panel construction is rather tricky, but Shelly's "sew and tell" post helps clarify it a lot. The rest of the dress came together easily.

I particularly love the pleated sleeves and lapped shoulders.

(I explained how I made their felt stockings a couple years ago in this post.)

We made little gift boxes for her two preschool teachers and her teacher's aide. The box is a free printable from Design Mom, which Louisa decorated and I filled with a few pieces of my mom's homemade fudge.

Her class and the kindergarten class don't have roles in the play, but they recited a poem and sang This Little Light of Mine (in both English and Spanish) at the beginning of the performance:
